Biography
One of the four remaining defendants prosecuted following the March 26, 1932 anti-war demonstration at the Japanese Embassy in Washington, targeted by police clubbing and subsequent assault accusations. The April 7 continuation says Kennedy’s trial was postponed to April 20. The postponement does not establish continued jail custody through that date. Exact discharge and total detention remain unknown. Source: https://www.marxists.org/history/usa/pubs/dailyworker/1932/v09-n084-NY-apr-08-1932-DW-LOC.pdf#page=3
The March 28 Washington dispatch reported an assault-case hearing after arrests during the Saturday antiwar demonstration at the Japanese Embassy. Hardy, Siskind and Kennedy pleaded not guilty, demanded a jury and were held on $500 bail for an April 6 trial. Ivan Kastrow, the fourth defendant, could not appear because of injuries. The article identifies Joan Hardy as a Baltimore young worker beaten unconscious. The Saturday arrest date was March 26, 1932. Surnames alone are preserved without invented first names.
