Biography
Joseph Winkowsky was a Young Communist League activist arrested with thirty-two other protesters at the Mexican Embassy on January 4, 1930. The demonstration opposed incoming Mexican president Pascual Ortiz Rubio’s closer relationship with the Hoover administration. A police officer knocked Winkowsky unconscious with a blow to the jaw; he was taken to a hospital while the others were taken to jail.
