Biography
Joseph Russo of Boston was indicted under the Smith Act membership clause, which criminalized knowing membership in an organization said to advocate forceful overthrow. His case remained untried through 1958 and 1959 while the Supreme Court considered other membership-clause prosecutions. The reviewed record does not establish an arrest, conviction or confinement.
