John L. Geibel was from Sacramento, California. John L. Geibel was sentenced to five years in prison. He served in McNeil Island Penitentiary. His wife was also convicted and sentenced to a year in the county jail. They were forced to leave their young son with a relative.
1920s custody review: The original 1921 Senate table, printed page 88, records October 8, 1918 as sentencing to five years and a $2,500 fine. It separately states that the sentence was commuted to one year and one day on April 22, 1919, and that he was out by expiration on July 28, 1919. The actual release date is therefore July 28, 1919, not the inherited 1920 year. Sentencing is recorded separately from admission; the unsupported admission on sentencing day is cleared. The adjacent Minnie Geibel row is distinct and its commutation date is not transferred to John. Arrest, actual initial admission and photo remain unresolved.
