Biography
John Jankowski was prosecuted with Frank Grady in the 1975–1976 arms case involving 1970 transactions over the export of weapons to Northern Ireland. He received concurrent three-year sentences on the firearms-record and export-conspiracy counts.
The federal indictment in the arms case was filed on May 2, 1975, and trial began on March 8, 1976 before U.S. District Judge Charles L. Brieant Jr. Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael Q. Carey prosecuted the case. The Second Circuit affirmed the judgment on October 27, 1976. The underlying firearms transactions occurred in 1970. Jankowski, a licensed firearms dealer in Yonkers, was convicted of ten firearms-record falsification counts and conspiracy; the three-year sentences ran concurrently. The appellate judgment does not establish the dates he physically entered or left prison.
