Biography

John E. Hester was a Lowndale labor activist beaten and arrested when the Los Angeles red squad attacked a workers delegation at the Welfare Bureau. The June 28 report says a jury in Judge Crum’s court found him guilty on two electricity-theft counts and that he received fifty days for contempt after insisting evidence be put on record. The fifty-day term is a sentence rather than measured service; actual arrest is independently explicit.
