Biography
James Rorty, a New York Post reporter and Non-Partisan Labor Defense member, was jailed in California’s Imperial Valley and forcibly sent to Arizona in March 1935, according to Herbert Solow’s August 1935 Union-Smashing in Sacramento. The pamphlet presents the episode as part of repression of reporting and agricultural-union organizing. It establishes actual detention and expulsion, but gives no exact arrest or physical discharge day, statutory charge, judicial conviction or measured duration.
