Biography

James McLean was a Los Angeles laborer described as a militant worker in the Daily Worker of December 8, 1934, page 1. Its December 7 streetcar-strike report says detectives dragged him out of bed and held him for arson, accusing him of involvement in a streetcar burning the previous week. It says burns on his hands were the only evidence cited. The report establishes detention and the accusation, not guilt, an exact arrest date, conviction, sentence or eventual release.
