Biography

Gustave Dahlin was one of eight workers arrested at an election meeting in San Francisco’s Jefferson Square on October 28, 1934. The Western Worker named Gustave Dahlin in its arrest list and reported a vagrancy charge. The paper identified Dahlin as a Communist candidate for the state assembly. A subsequent November 6 report said the other defendants from that arrest had been released on bail, without giving individual release days.

Daily Worker, October 31, 1934, page 3: The San Francisco October 30 dispatch names this defendant in the Jefferson Park election-meeting arrests and reports $1,000 cash bail. It prints Alex Naral, Gus Dahlin and Eve Crew for the corresponding Noral, Gustave Dahlin and Eva Crew identities. The account says yesterday, implying October 29, while the existing Western Worker source gives October 28; it also labels six listed companions as five. These conflicts are retained without replacing the existing arrest day or creating a duplicate case.
