Biography
Gerald Sherman was arrested at the edge of a May Day meeting in Compton, California, in 1934 after police failed to disperse approximately two hundred workers. The crowd marched to the jail singing and demanding his freedom; the May 3 dispatch reports that he was released within twenty minutes. No statutory charge or later disposition is supplied. The short reported interval is not rounded into a full day of imprisonment. Source: https://www.marxists.org/history/usa/pubs/dailyworker/1934/v11-n108-may-05-1934-DW-LOC.pdf#page=3
