Biography

Gene Miller was an Eureka lumber striker held amid the 1935 Sawmill and Timber Workers Union campaign. The August 23 report says prosecutor Bradford was attempting to keep him on new charges after the preceding Saturday’s trial, August 17, ended with a jury unable to agree after twenty-five hours. International Labor Defense lawyer Leo Gallagher protested the conduct of Bradford and Judge Warren V. Tryon. A hung jury is neither acquittal nor conviction; the exact arrest date, fresh counts, continued-hold outcome and full custody duration are unknown.
