Biography

Fred Hegge was arrested at Fortine, Montana, by federal authorities during the 1917 lumber-workers strike. The September 1917 International Socialist Review reports that he was kept under guard at Whitefish for fifty-eight days. The report places this detention amid action against Industrial Workers of the World organizers and strikers, but does not identify an individual statutory charge or judicial sentence. It gives no exact arrest, transfer or physical release date; fifty-eight days is the reported confinement, without a separately established final custody endpoint.
