Biography

Feodosiy Kovalenko was born 1892 in Minsk, Russia (present-day Belarus). Worked as a laborer.

Joined Branch No. 2 of the Union of Russian Workers in Detroit in February 1918 and distributed Russian anarchist and IWW publications. Arrested in May 1919, he was deported January 22, 1921.

He appears to have illegally returned to the United States, where in 1939 he was active in Detroit’s Dielo Truda Group and described as a comrade “capable of doing great work of the organizational-educational type in the movement.”

Case

Arrested: May 1919
Incarcerated: May 1919
Released: Jan 22, 1921
In exile since: Jan 22, 1921
Exile ended: 1939
Sentence: Arrested in May 1919 and deported on January 22, 1921. The source records no release on bail or bond, so custody pending deportation is recorded from arrest to sailing; if evidence of an interim release surfaces, the span should be shortened. The exile ended when the source records a return to the United States in 1939.
