Biography
Dorothy Forest was one of five Missouri Communist Party officials arrested on September 17, 1952 and prosecuted in St. Louis under the Smith Act. She secured release on $10,000 bail while three codefendants remained jailed. A jury convicted her in May 1954 and the court imposed a three-year sentence, but she remained free during appeal. The Eighth Circuit reversed the convictions in April 1958 and the Justice Department dismissed the case that October. No service of the sentence is established.
