Dmitriy Guzner was charged with committing a distributed denial of service (DDOS) attack against the Scientology websites in 2008. (DDOS attacks direct traffic to a website to overfill its capacity, rendering it unusable) Guzner claims to be part of the hacker group “Anonymous.” Six armored officers raided Guzner’s parents’ home, and he was sentenced to a year in prison and two years' probation on charges of unauthorized impairment of a protected computer.
2010s audit verified October 12, 2026: BOP confirms DMITRIY GUZNER, 29985-050, age 36, federal custody ended May 13, 2011. The May 2010 admission remains only month precision; the 377-day calculation from its May 1 placeholder was removed. The original DOJ October 17, 2008 charging announcement does not establish an arrest day; that gap remains open.
Charging announcement, not an incarceration date
The October 17, 2008 U.S. Attorney announcement names Dmitriy Guzner and reports a criminal information and an agreement to plead guilty. It describes the plea as expected in the coming weeks, not already entered that day. Its reference to a possible ten-year maximum is not the later imposed sentence. The announcement supplies no physical admission or release date, so October 17 is not entered as an arrest or jail date. It reports age 18, which does not establish an exact birthday or uniquely resolve a birth year; the existing birth record is not changed from this age alone. Later plea, sentencing and custody information already stored is retained.
