Convicted of four misdemeanors and a felony for breaking windows at Citizens Bank, Irish Design Center, and Quizno's on September 24, 2009 during the G-20 summit protests in Pittsburgh. Held at the Allegheny County Jail in Pittsburgh.
He was paroled in mid-December 2010, weeks after the November 23, 2010 sentence of six to eighteen months.
In a first-person statement dated January 3, 2010, Japenga reported that he was arrested on September 24, 2009, spent 20 days in Allegheny County Jail, and left jail on October 14, 2009, for electronically monitored house arrest. This pretrial jail stay is separate from his later August 25–December 13, 2010, imprisonment. The two documented jail periods total 130 days; the intervening house arrest is not counted as imprisonment. Judge Jeffrey Manning's role in the source concerned a travel request, not an identified sentencing hearing.
