Biography
Consuelo Burgos was one of two women among the eleven defendants in Puerto Rico's first Smith Act case, indicted in 1954 and tried in San Juan in 1956 for conspiring to advocate the overthrow of the government.
Dávila Marichal reports that police detained Consuelo Burgos and Juan Sáez Corales at their Hato Rey home at about 3:30 a.m. on November 2, 1950. The account describes four and a half days in custody with their children. This is a distinct 1950 detention and does not replace the existing 1954 prosecution.
