Biography
Charles Goode Gomillion was a Tuskegee Institute professor and president of the Tuskegee Civic Association. In 1957 he led a selective-buying campaign against a state gerrymander that removed nearly every Black voter from Tuskegee. Alabama officials sought injunctions and threatened prosecution under the state anti-boycott law, but the reviewed record does not establish that Gomillion was arrested or confined. He later prevailed in the landmark voting-rights case Gomillion v. Lightfoot.
