Biography
Mathew Kennedy was a pensioned World War I veteran who drove in the Montgomery Improvement Association car pool during the 1955–1956 bus boycott. A grand jury indicted him and other boycott participants under Alabama’s anti-boycott law on February 21, 1956. Kennedy surrendered to authorities, was photographed at arrest and was released on bond. Only Martin Luther King Jr. was ultimately tried on the mass indictment, and no jail term for Kennedy was established.
