Biography
Charles Alexander was one of three Black defendants whom the January 1933 entry of the annual review describes as convicted for defending themselves against a lynch mob. Jacob Alexander, fifty-one, and his son Charles, seventeen, received life terms; George Oldhan received seventeen to twenty-five years. Eligibility for parole after seventeen years is a future possibility, not actual service. Exact arrest, prison admission, sentence day and release are not supplied. Charles’s qualified record is not linked to the separately listed conscientious objector. Oldhan is the printed spelling; Oldham variants were checked.
