Biography

Nelson Pierce was a coal miner of the Washburn, Tennessee area arrested in December 1933 and sentenced to a year in the state prison for strike activity.

Eliza Pierce’s letter says Nelson and James were taken from home and jailed December 5 of the preceding year and sent to state prison for a year; she had not seen them since. This corroborates December 5, 1933 and family eviction from the Forkridge mine lease. The one year is an imposed term, not proof of completed service or release.
