Biography

Central American revolutionary Augustin Marti was arrested by U.S. immigration officers after landing at San Pedro following earlier expulsion from El Salvador and refusals of admission elsewhere. The January 23, 1931 Daily Worker reports his delivery to the S.S. Venezuela, which sailed January 14, and alleges its officers refused an immigration officer’s attempt to recover him after the ILD sought habeas corpus. The ILD demanded asylum. The paper says he was en route, possibly to El Salvador or Nicaragua, and does not establish completed arrival, execution or an exact U.S. arrest day.
