Biography
Arthur Tarkam was a SERA worker assigned to the Presidio in San Francisco. A November 25, 1934 report and continuation describe military police seizing him at his noon meal the preceding Thursday, beating him while demanding a confession of Communist activity, and using badge pins against his limbs. The account says officers later took him home and searched his room. A civil-rights delegation protested. These allegations are attributed to the newspaper; no formal charge, sentence or exact discharge is supplied.
