Biography

Page 3 identifies Arthur Milton, 69, as the sixth worker arrested after the June 1 Los Angeles unemployed relief demonstration. Still awaiting trial, he remained in Glendale hospital recovering from a broken thigh, broken leg, broken arm and internal injuries attributed by the newspaper to police and deputized attackers. Hospitalization is not assigned an invented jail duration. Source: https://www.marxists.org/history/usa/pubs/dailyworker/1934/v11-n233-sep-28-1934-DW-LOC.pdf

The July 9 Western Worker’s June 29 Los Angeles report says Milton, a defendant in the June 1 unemployed demonstration prosecution, remained in the prison ward of city jail suffering from alleged police beatings. It says he denied police statements that other workers had beaten him. No exact physical discharge or completed custody duration is given.
