Biography

Andrea Beverly Graves was a licensed practical nurse in the Chicago Black Panther Party’s health cadre. She was arrested in the June 4, 1969 FBI raid on the party office and released on bond that day. Police detained her again on June 8 with other Panthers, treating her medical supplies as grounds for drug-related allegations. She spent the night in custody and was released on bond the following morning.

An FBI interview report following the June 4, 1969 Chicago Panther headquarters raid records Andrea Beverly Graves’s date of birth as October 3, 1947, and birthplace as Chicago, Illinois. The description was obtained through interview and observation. This fills the previously unrecorded birth date; no additional imprisonment interval is inferred from the brief raid arrest.

FBI interview report, PDF pages 955–956.

The June 12, 1969 FBI report at PDF page 179 individually names Andrea Beverly Graves among eight people arrested during the early-morning June 4 search of Chicago Black Panther headquarters, accused of harboring George Sams Jr. It states that all appeared before the United States Commissioner and were released on bond that same day. Page 156 identifies Commissioner James T. Balog, recognizance release and $3,000 bond for the female defendants. The June 20 hearing was scheduled, not a proven later disposition. This June 4 event is separate from the existing June 8–9 detention. No overnight custody or numerical duration is added.
