Biography
Ahlam Mohsen is a Yemeni-American anti-war activist who pressed a crustless apple pie into U.S. Senator Carl Levin’s face at an August 16, 2010 public meeting in Big Rapids, Michigan. The protest challenged Levin’s role as chair of the Senate Armed Services Committee and his support for U.S. wars and military policy in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Palestine. Mohsen was jailed from August 16 to August 24, 2010. After federal prosecutors took over the case, she pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault on a member of Congress. On August 30, 2011, she was sentenced to thirty days and taken immediately into federal custody.
