Biography

Abdel-Jabbar Hamdan was a Palestinian-born civil engineer and former Southern California fundraiser for the Holy Land Foundation. Federal and immigration agents arrested him at his Buena Park home in July 2004 on an immigration violation during the government’s Holy Land Foundation investigation. Hamdan was never charged with terrorism and had no criminal conviction, but immigration authorities held him without bond for more than two years while alleging that his fundraising association made him a security threat. A federal appeals court ordered his release, and he left the Terminal Island detention facility on July 31, 2006 subject to electronic monitoring and movement restrictions.
