Biography
Abdulrahman Odeh was a leader of the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development, a United States–based Muslim charity that presented itself as a major humanitarian fundraising channel for Palestinian relief. Federal authorities ultimately prosecuted Odeh and other leaders on the theory that the charity’s overseas giving and affiliated networks functioned as “material support” for Hamas.
After a federal jury conviction in 2008, Odeh was sentenced in Dallas in 2009 by Jorge A. Solis to 15 years in federal prison as part of the same case against the charity’s leadership.
The physical prison period ended in December 2020 with a transition to halfway-house or community custody. This was not unconditional release or the end of all US custody. The contemporaneous December 22 account explicitly reports an accomplished prison release and continued halfway-house placement; its publication day is not an exact exit day. Official BOP register 26548-050 later reports August 20, 2021 administrative release with Dallas RRM as the last placement. The exact physical exit day and the basis for the existing initial admission remain unresolved, so the exact physical imprisonment total is unknown.
