Biography
Yoshiko Matsuda was a teacher at Wailuku Hongwanji Gakuen, a poet, and the wife of Ryugen Matsuda. JCCH records her birth year as 1900. Her individual record documents January 1943 mainland transfer aboard Kota Agoeng, Jerome confinement February 1943-May 1944, Tule Lake confinement May 1944-November 1945 and December 1945 return to Honolulu aboard Shawnee. Her own family confinement timeline is distinct from the December 1941 arrest of her husband. She later founded Odamaki Tanka Kai and received the Hawaii Award for Literature in 1990. Her confinement was part of US wartime incarceration of people of Japanese ancestry; no individual criminal conviction is established.
