Biography
Yoshikata Kitajima was a Nisei Japanese American child from Kapaa, Kauai, and a son of Shoyu and Kamechiyo Kitajima. JCCH records his birth year as 1940. His individual record documents departure from Kauai in November 1942, custody at the Honolulu Immigration Station, mainland transfer aboard Lurline in December 1942, Jerome confinement January 1943-May 1944 and Tule Lake confinement May 1944-November 1945. He returned to Honolulu aboard Shawnee in December 1945. His own confinement timeline is distinct from the December 1941 arrest of his father. This was administrative US wartime family confinement in the context of Japanese ancestry; the archive establishes no individual criminal conviction.
