Biography

William Wyath was among six Black Civilian Conservation Corps recruits interviewed after five days’ imprisonment at Camp Preston for challenging racial discrimination. Cooper and Dore protested replacement as clerks by white recruits; the commandant then arrested four more. They describe a justice-of-the-peace proceeding in which Justice Flanagan threatened six months and a $50 fine unless they pleaded guilty. The article reports completed five-day detention, without precise calendar endpoints, and challenges claims of a riot. The source’s weekday/calendar wording is not used to invent dates.
