Biography

William Weiner was the Communist Party USA’s national treasurer. A federal jury convicted him of using a passport obtained through false statements, and the Supreme Court upheld the conviction in 1941. Although sentenced to two years in federal prison, he never served the sentence because of a serious heart condition.

Ernest Moorer’s account identifies Communist Party financial secretary William Weiner explaining party financial transactions at the Dies committee hearings. The report supplies context for scrutiny of the party, but establishes no new arrest or custody interval for Weiner.
