Biography

William "Omar" Andrews was a member of the Baltimore Black Panther Party who helped open its West Baltimore office in November 1970. In January 1971 he was hospitalized for severe infections in his feet. Authorities took him from the hospital back to Maryland's Patuxent Institution, and his parole was revoked after he missed an appointment while unable to walk. The Baltimore Panthers described his return to confinement as retaliation for his organizing. He had joined the party after release from an earlier armed-robbery sentence; that earlier imprisonment preceded his Panther work.
