Biography

Wayne Raney was a Black prisoner and prisoners’ rights hunger striker at the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility in Lucasville. In a first-person account published by The Black Panther on December 6, 1975, he described a guard assault on August 14 and said he had already spent two years in isolation, during which guards had attacked him on other occasions. He joined Robert Horne and Timothy Reed in a hunger strike seeking humane conditions, adequate food and medical care, religious services, access to legal materials and fair visiting arrangements. The original conviction and the beginning and end of his imprisonment are not established by this account.
