Biography

Vladimir Romero, a child of Tampa cigar worker Mama (Frances) Romero, was arrested at age 10 during the November 7, 1931 crackdown on the Labor Temple Russian Revolution anniversary meeting. Joseph Freeman’s account describes the child as selling the Daily Worker and other radical literature and says the family was taken to city jail. No individual charge, disposition, physical release or completed duration is supplied. The age is the report’s retrospective age at arrest, not a verified birth date. Daily Worker, May 11, 1934, page 5. Source: https://www.marxists.org/history/usa/pubs/dailyworker/1934/v11-n113-may-11-1934-DW-LOC.pdf#page=5

Page 7 reports that a policeman seized ten-year-old Vladimir while he sold the Daily Worker and Labor Defender at the November 7, 1931 Labor Temple meeting. Felix Marero protested the arrest and was hit; the paper describes the ensuing shooting and roundup. Vladimir had already been released when the other seventeen were transferred to county jail. This establishes actual release after the seizure, but not an exact physical discharge day or measured duration.
