Biography
Frank Henderson was an International Longshoremen’s Association organizer active in Florida ports. The May 15, 1936 Daily Worker reported that Tampa police arrested him on November 30, 1935, the same night as the raid on Joseph A. Shoemaker and the Modern Democrats. According to testimony described in the paper, police acted after receiving a Clyde-Mallory company telegram seeking his detention or expulsion as an alleged Communist activist; Henderson was detained overnight. The article describes his union organizing work and his later testimony before the National Labor Relations Board.
The May 22, 1936 Daily Worker identifies Henderson as the ILA organizer whose name was deleted from police records of the November 30 Tampa raid. It describes National Labor Relations Board interviews and a Clyde-Mallory telegram seeking his arrest or expulsion, and publishes a captioned portrait. These details concern the already recorded November 30, 1935 overnight detention, not another custody episode.
