Biography

Tony Bezich was a Communist candidate for state legislator in New Jersey in 1932. He served a 90-day jail sentence for distributing National Hunger March leaflets. The Daily Worker of December 28, 1932, page 1, carries a Hoboken dispatch dated December 27 saying that he had recently completed the sentence and died that morning. The hospital attributed his death to pneumonia; the newspaper attributed it to his jail experiences. A follow-up on December 29, page 1, announced a funeral that day starting at Monroe and Jackson Streets. His wife had also died, leaving their two children; the two reports differ on the sequence of her death, so no exact date is assigned to her. The sources do not establish Bezich's exact admission or release day.
