Biography
Thomas Redman was a Quaker jailed at Gloucester Town in 1777 for refusing support for the Revolution and a pledge of loyalty to New Jersey. The Gloucester City Historical Society reports eight weeks in jail. This was religious and political nonconformity involving allegiance, not a verified conviction for refusing a military draft.
Custody date source
John Pemberton’s diary explicitly records the commitment of both Mark Miller and Thomas Redman to Gloucester jail on January 21, 1777. This independently verifies the start date already entered.
