Biography
Thomas Holmes was a Young Communist League district organizer in Chester, Pennsylvania. He distributed unemployment leaflets to workers at the Ford and Viscose plants near Chester. Arrested in January 1930, he was convicted of sedition under Pennsylvania's Flynn Act at Media on April 2 and received a maximum sentence of three years in the State Industrial Reformatory at Huntingdon. He was eighteen at the time of the prosecution and served eighteen months in the reformatory.
The September 8, 1930 Laisve, page 5, reproduces an International Labor Defense political-prisoner directory. Its row prints Thomas Holmes, a term of not supplied, the year 1930 in the sentencing-year column, and confinement or correspondence location Huntington Reformatory, Pennsylvania, as printed.
