Biography
Ted Sason was a Fur Floor Boys Union member arrested after a reported attack while checking overtime in New York’s fur market on Saturday, August 29, 1936. The Daily Worker individually names Sol Berkowitz, Ted Sason and Tony Demos and says all three were charged with felonious assault. Their September 3 hearing was postponed. The union then obtained the arrests of employers Manny Koch and Herman Rutter on the same charge. A strike settlement at Koch’s shop included a wage increase, shorter hours, compensation for strike time, vacation money for the three men and trial expenses. The settlement does not establish dismissal of the criminal charges or an exact release. Source: https://www.marxists.org/history/usa/pubs/dailyworker/1936/v13-n213-NY-sep-04-1936-DW-Q.pdf#page=3
The September1,1936 Daily Worker individually names Ted Sason with the same three Fur Floor Boys Union members attacked while checking overtime at a shop it calls Max Koch’s on Saturday,August29. It reports that police charged the victims with burglary and felonious assault and that their union had already bailed all three out of the Thirtieth Street jail. This is a completed bail-release observation by publication, not an exact discharge day or a complete actual custody total. The announced Wednesday hearing was prospective; the later September3 postponement and the existing account of the employer’s name remain preserved. The reported fifteen-minute beating is not time imprisoned.
