Biography
Takahiko Chinen was an Issei automobile mechanic from Naalehu, Hawaii. JCCH records his birth year as 1891. His individual record documents July 1942 arrest, Sand Island July-August 1942, mainland transfer and Angel Island in August 1942, a Lordsburg listing for August 1942, a Santa Fe listing for June 1943, Jerome March-May 1944 and Tule Lake May 1944-November 1945. He returned to Hawaii aboard Shawnee in December 1945. The single-month Lordsburg and Santa Fe entries do not establish continuous residence through the intervening months. This was administrative US wartime civilian detention in the context of Japanese ancestry. No individual criminal conviction, imposed judicial sentence or exact arrest or release day is established.
