Biography
Sumie Kitajima was born at Tule Lake Segregation Center in May 1944 while her parents, Yoshio and Roku Kitajima, were confined under the US wartime incarceration of people of Japanese ancestry. Her individual JCCH record establishes Tule Lake confinement May 1944-November 1945 and arrival in Honolulu aboard Shawnee in December 1945. She was an infant born into family confinement, not an arrested criminal defendant. The archive gives no exact birth day or individual criminal conviction. Her December 1945 journey is recorded as arrival in Hawaii rather than a return to a place she had previously lived. Source: https://incarceration.jcchawaii.org/internees/kitajima-sumie
