Biography

Steven Charles Hamilton was a Free Speech Movement and antiwar organizer who helped organize Stop the Draft Week and became one of the Oakland Seven. An eleven-week conspiracy trial ended with all seven acquitted in March 1969. Hamilton had separately been convicted with four activists for trespass during a protest against Navy recruiting at the University of California, Berkeley, and of contempt for holding a press conference about that case. Contemporary reports place him in jail in June and July 1969 while serving a 75-day term arising from those demonstration misdemeanors.
