Biography

Stanley Tomkins was secretary of the Non-Partisan Unemployed League in Bayonne, New Jersey. The Daily Worker of November 30, 1934, page 2, reports from Bayonne on November 29 that he and four other workers had been arrested the previous day during the relief-project strike. Tomkins arrived at police headquarters with two workers after two pickets had already been seized; all three were then arrested. Judge Paul Cullum changed the charge from being disorderly persons to inciting to riot and fixed bail at $10,000 each. Judge James Erwin later reduced it to $2,500 each. No payment of bail, release, conviction or actual detention length is established. Source: https://www.marxists.org/history/usa/pubs/dailyworker/1934/v11-n286-NAT-nov-30-1934-DW-LOC.pdf
