Biography
Song Kang-Ho is a Korean Jeju Naval Base resister. Trespass and obstruction of business during naval base construction on Jeju.
Since 2007, the South Korean government has been constructing a major naval base on Gangjeong village, Jeju Island — a UNESCO biosphere reserve and South Korea's southernmost island. The base, designed to host U.S. and South Korean Aegis destroyers and a port-of-call for U.S. nuclear-powered aircraft carriers, is widely understood as a forward-deployment site for the U.S. military's posture against China. Local Gangjeong residents and Korean peace activists have maintained continuous nonviolent resistance at the construction gates since 2010; hundreds have been arrested and dozens have served Korean prison sentences for trespass, obstruction, and civil disobedience.
The October 2013 Gangjeong prison roster lists confinement at Jeju since July 1, 2013, identifying October 8 as day 100 and prisoner numbers 409 for Song and 535 for Park. These contemporary dates conflict with the existing August 20–September 29 forty-day account. 2013 prison chronology: conflicting legacy dates
The September and October 2013 original Gangjeong Village Story newsletters both list Song Kang-Ho at Jeju Prison since July 1. The October issue states October 8 was his hundredth day in prison. This conflicts with the legacy August 20–September 29, 2013 forty-day row, which cannot describe the same uninterrupted episode. Source evidence establishes July 1, 2013 entry and continued October custody, but no actual release. The legacy episode must be reconciled against its original source before replacement or addition to avoid double counting.
