Biography

Slim Welsh was among cafeteria pickets arrested at the Zelgreen Cafeteria, 217 West 34th Street, New York, on October 27, 1930. The Daily Worker of October 28, pages 1–2, reports twenty-one arrests during mass picketing against an injunction. Fifteen defendants were dismissed at Jefferson Market Court that afternoon; six were held under Penal Code paragraph 600, including Slim Welsh and Rose Rosen. Welsh, identified by the nickname Slim, led the picket carrying placards, read the served injunction paper and tore it up before police seized him. The report gives no individual custodial sentence or actual release for the six held defendants. The dismissed fifteen are not identified by name.
