Biography
Sidney Turoff was convicted in December 1959 for refusing to give the House Un-American Activities Committee the names of alleged Communist Party associates in Buffalo. He received concurrent sixty-day jail terms and a $100 fine on each of two counts. The Second Circuit reversed the conviction on June 26, 1961 and ordered a new trial because highly prejudicial material had been put before the jury. The final disposition and whether he served any jail time remain unresolved.
