Biography
George W. Crockett Jr. was one of the defense attorneys in the 1949 Foley Square Smith Act trial of the eleven Communist Party leaders. Like his co-counsel, he was summarily sentenced to prison for contempt of court by Judge Harold Medina for his vigorous defense; he served four months in 1952. Crockett went on to become a Detroit judge and a member of Congress.
The September 11, 1952 National Guardian reports that George Crockett Jr. and Abraham Isserman completed their jail terms the previous month and that both served four months.
