Biography
Shigeo Shigenaga was an Issei Honolulu restaurant owner and operator of the Venice Cafe. JCCH records his birth year as 1901. His individual record documents March 1942 arrest, Honolulu Immigration Station and Sand Island detention, May 1942 mainland transfer, Angel Island and Fort Sam Houston in June 1942, Lordsburg June 1942-June 1943 and Santa Fe June 1943-October 1945. He returned to Hawaii aboard Yarmouth in November 1945. JCCH reports that authorities initially arrested his brother Kakuro by mistake before arresting Shigeo; the earlier arrest is not assigned to Shigeo. This was administrative US wartime civilian detention in the context of Japanese ancestry. No individual criminal conviction, imposed judicial sentence or exact arrest or release day is established.
