Biography
Sayoko Shirley Nakano was a child from Makaweli, Kauai, in the household of Sukenoshin and Tsuchito Nakano. JCCH records the birth year as 1934 and identifies Japanese ancestry as the reason for US government detention. The individual record documents mainland transfer aboard Lurline in December 1942, Jerome confinement January 1943-June 1944 and Amache confinement June 1944-October 1945, and return to Hawaii aboard Yarmouth in November 1945. The return month is distinct from the last documented camp month. This was administrative US wartime family confinement. No individual criminal conviction, judicial sentence or exact arrest or release day is established. Source: https://incarceration.jcchawaii.org/internees/nakano-sayoko-shirley
